Chopta is one of small hamlets located in Uttarakhand in Rudraprayag district. Chopta lies in Himalayan range which is 400 km from the Capital of India. Chopta,a beautiful picturesque place, is elevated at 13100 feet above the sea level.
Chopta is an unexplored trek and is famous for its monuments of historical,cultural and religious significance. Tourists come from every corner of India to enjoy sports such as trekking, hiking and many other himalayan adventures.
Chopta is an all year trek and easy to conquer like Chandrashila,Deoria and Tungnath. All treks are located within 5 km of distance. Chopta to Tungnath is just 4 km. Tungnath to Chndrashila is 1 km and the base camp of Chandrashila is Chopta. It is an 8 hours trek in both ways from chopta to tunganath- chandrashila and back to Basecamp.
From the peak of Chopta-chandrashila 360 view of Himalayan peaks like Nanda devi, Trishul,kedarnath, Chaukhamba summit is clearly visible.
HOW TO REACH CHOPTA
By Road-
Chopta is well connected to Delhi and Haridwar region of Uttarakhand. Chopta and Haridwar are 220 km in distance which takes 8-9 hours to reach there. After reaching Haridwar there are a number of private taxis and buses are well connected to Chopta to take you there.
By Air-
Jolly airport is the nearest airport which is 219 km away from Dehradun district. Taxis are easily available to Rishikesh,Ukhimath,Rudrapryag and chopta.
By Rail-
The Nearest Railway station is Haridwar. After reaching Haridwar you can take Buses and Taxis.
If you love trekking you can also do Kumara parvatha trek in bangalore.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Chopta is an all season hill station. In Summer months you can visit between May to June. and in winters November to February are considered the best months. This small hill station can be covered easily by walk.
MAIN ATTRACTION OF CHOPT AND PLACES TO VISIT
The main attraction in Chopta is its panoramic view of Himalayas with snow capped temples. There are a lot of alpine meadows which look stunning in winters. Chopta is a refreshing place which is known for its numerous vacation places and provides an enthralling experience.

Tungnath–
Tunganath is famous for its largest Shiva temple which is situated at the altitude of 3680 mt. Tunganath is one of the Panch kedar and easiest treks in Uttarakhand. Tunganath is covered with Pine forest and rhododendron.In Tunganath you can enjoy camping under the stars and visiting temples.
DEORIA TAL–
Deoria tal is located at a distance of 3 km from sari village. In Deoria you can go for village exploration to understand the living of people in the mountains. In deoria you can enjoy camping at the lake and embrace the local life.
CHANDRASHILA–
Chandrashila is perched at an altitude of 4000 metres and one of the best places in Chopta for sight seeing.According to mythology chandrashila is place where lord ram meditated after defeating Ravana. There is a temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga atop chandshila. In Chandrashila you can enjoy visiting the temples along with trekking.
UKHIMATH–
Ukhimath is known as Kedarnath in Chopta in winters. Ukhimath serves the purpose to visit Chopta in the winters when kedarnath remains shut. A lot of devotees come here to enjoy the scenic beauty of this place. Ukhimath temple is a main attraction in Ukhimath to enjoy the view of Himalayas of uttarakhand
KANCHULA KORAK DEER SANCTUARY-
Kanchula sanctuary is situated on Chopta- Gopeshwar road. This 5 sqkm extended sanctuary is most famous for musk deer and its dense forest. The rare himalayan species, birds and animals can be seen there. The jungle safari and wildlife watching is the main thing to do in Kanchula Korak Sanctuary.
MADHYAMAHESHWAR MANDIR–
Mahamaheshwar is also known as Madmaheshwar which is popular as Lord shiva’s temple.
As per the mythology, Lord shiva stomach is worshipped here by devotees and that is why this temple is so popular among tourists.
This temple is situated at the altitude of 3200 metre and it is surrounded by green meadows. From this temple you can enjoy the view of Kedarnath and Neelkanth peak.
ROHINI BUGYAL-
Rohini Bugyal is one of main attractions in Chopta covered with green meadows. Rohinibugyal can be visited while you visit Chandrashila peak via Deoria tal. Rohini bugyal is the perfect location for enjoying the camping. If you are an adventurous lover then this place will fulfil your purpose.
DUGALBITTA–
If you visit uttarakhand you must hear the name Dugalbitta. This small hamlet is often overlooked due to the popularity of Chopta.the main attraction in Dugalbitta is bird watching and exploring the kedarnath wildlife sanctuary.
